Colorado has a population of over 4,665,000 with it's largest city being Denver. Colorado is named after the Colorado River. Its name means "colored red" in Spanish. The river was named this because of the many colorful rock formations seen in the state's mountains and western plateaus. Colorado's nickname is the "Centennial State" because it joined the Union on the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Breathtaking scenery and world-class skiing make Colorado a prime tourist destination.

30 to 60 million buffalo used to roam the wild west. By the 1800's America had killed all but 500 when the government finally stepped in to protect them. Today Colorado is leading the fight to preserve this part of American Heritage and today over a million buffalo once again roam our prairies. Buffalo herds can be found in every state including Hawaii.

The main tourist attractions in the state include Rocky Mountain National Park, Curecanti National Recreation Area, Mesa Verde National Park, the Great Sand Dunes and Dinosaur National Monuments, Colorado National Monument, and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Monument.
