Louisiana has a population of over 4,523,000 with it's largest city being New Orleans.
The state has become a popular tourist destination. New Orleans is the major draw, known particularly for its picturesque French Quarter and the annual Mardi Gras celebration, held since 1838.
Other major points of interest include the Superdome in New Orleans, historic plantation homes near Natchitoches and New Iberia, Cajun country in the Mississippi Delta Region, Chalmette National Historic Park, and the state capital at Baton Rouge.
On Aug. 29, 2005, Louisiana was hit by Hurricane
Katrina,
devastating New Orleans, and killing hundreds elsewhere in the state,
particularly in the parishes of Jefferson and St. Bernard. Federal and
local officials were widely criticized for their slow and inadequate
response to the initial disaster and subsequent recovery programs.
Today Louisiana is on the rebound with a healthy economy and new
improved structures throughout the state.

Louisiana is known for its unique history, its oil/gas
and seafood
empires, its music, its diverse cultural make-up, including the Cajun
culture of Southwest Louisiana and its once dominant Creole culture,
its vast wetlands, swamps, bayous, and its sugar & cotton
plantations along its waterways.

Louisiana has long been known for its bounty of fresh
seafood.
Seafood that makes it to the markets and restaurants is safe. Oil
affected areas are closed to fishing, and catches from unaffected areas
are being inspected in even more detail than usual.

Cajun Country is the place to go for Louisiana
swamp tours,
where you can get up close and personal with creatures,
critters,
and cascading cypress trees and Spanish moss of the bayous.

Wildlife are plentiful in Louisiana with a huge variety
of species of animals and birds every where you travel.

The Crossroads region is the geographical
center of
Louisiana. It is full of wildlife and nature. There is an 800,000 acre
national forest, a huge reservoir, a beautiful old Bayou to take canoe
rides in and an amazing collection of historic plantation homes. This
is an area of unspoiled nature full of cabin resorts hotels to take the
family fishing, camping or boating.

Listen to the music, take in the history,
and enjoy the
nature, but most of all don’t forget to eat! Cajun and Creole food that
is distinct and original to the State of Louisiana is a taste you will
never forget! Louisiana vacations are sure to delight,
entertain, relax and inspire.
