Minnesota has a population of over 5,132,000 with it's largest city being Minneapolis.

Tourism is a major revenue producer in Minnesota, with arts, fishing, hunting, water sports, and winter sports bringing in millions of visitors each year.

Among the most popular attractions are the St. Paul Winter Carnival; the Tyrone Guthrie Theatre, the Institute of Arts, Walker Art Center, and Minnehaha Park, in Minneapolis; Boundary Waters Canoe Area; Voyageurs National Park; North Shore Drive; the Minnesota Zoological Gardens; and the state's more than 10,000 lakes.

Carved by glaciers centuries ago, Minnesota is now known as the Land of Ten Thousand Lakes It is the 12th largest state in the U.S., and the 21st most populous. It has one of the most highly educated and literate populations. Minnesota is home to a wide variety of public open space and park lands.

The Twin Cities area is considered the capital for the arts in the upper Midwest.

Fishing is great in Minnesota, with so many rivers, lakes and streams to chose from the choices are unlimited. Do you remember your first fishing or boating trip? Ask anyone to tell the story of who first took them boating or fishing - chances are good the story is deeply personal and meaningful.

Over a dozen studies have shown that being with family and friends, relaxing and being outdoors and close to nature are the primary reasons people spend time on the water, and you can't do any better than fishing in Minnesota.

Minnesota also has some of the best bird and game hunting in the country. From ducks, geese and pheasant to deer, boar and bear hunting in Minnesota is a tradition. 

Hundreds of thousands of hunters each year take to the wild seeking a trophy and filling their freezer with meat for the winter.

Birding is the fastest-growing outdoor activity in America. In a recent study by the U.S. Department of the Interior, appreciation of birds ranks second behind gardening as America's favorite pastime. Birds add a fascinating dimension to our surroundings with their color, liveliness, and music. Because they are wild creatures, they bring an element of nature into our lives.

In Minnesota we have over 300 species of birds, perhaps this is why every year millions of Americans come to Minnesota to watch and take pictures of the birds and wildlife in our wonderful state.
