Rhode Island has a population of over 1,000,000 with it's largest city being Providence.
Remarkably, America 's smallest state -- Rhode Island -- is one of the nation's wealthiest repositories of historical attractions, boasting one of the highest concentration of the country's National Historic Landmarks.
Visitors will discover that Rhode Island has an abundance of Colonial and Victorian homes, palatial estates reminiscent of the gilded age, and public buildings, the nation's first enclosed shopping mall, the first manufacturing plant in America, a delightful 17th century fishing village, the boyhood home of one of America finest colonial artists, and two houses of worship which represent the roots of religious freedom in America. Best of all, the state's compact size makes it easy to travel from one historic site to the next -- none is more than an hour from any other, and many are within walking distance of each other.
One of Rhode Island's most surprising roles is the one it plays in the quality wine industry emerging from the eastern seaboard. New England's climate, moderated by its close proximity to the ocean, provides the area with an ideal growing season for several varieties of wine-making grapes.

Like much of New England, Rhode Island is notable for the great variety of its natural beauty, cultural offerings, and social history. To people who have not spent a lot of time in the Ocean State, the first images that arise may be of Newport’s fabulous Gilded-Age mansions, its legacy of 12-meter yachting, and its famed jazz, folk, and classical music festivals.

Other well-known images of Rhode Island are its long, sandy beaches along the Atlantic Ocean and Narragansett Bay and the revitalized cultural jewel that is Providence, the capital city.

Fishing is great in Rhode Island, with so many rivers, lakes and streams to chose from the choices are unlimited.
Over a dozen studies have shown that being with family and friends, relaxing and being outdoors and close to nature are the primary reasons people spend time on the water, and you can't do any better than fishing in Rhode Island.

Rhode Island also has some of the best bird and game hunting in the country. From ducks, geese and pheasant to deer, boar and bear hunting in Rhode Island is a tradition. Hundreds of thousands of hunters each year take to the wild seeking a trophy and filling their freezer with meat for the winter.

Birding is the fastest-growing outdoor activity in America. In a recent study by the U.S. Department of the Interior, appreciation of birds ranks second behind gardening as America favorite pastime. Birds add a fascinating dimension to our surroundings with their color, liveliness, and music. Because they are wild creatures, they bring an element of nature into our lives.

In Rhode Island we have over 300 species of birds, perhaps this is why every year millions of Americans come to Rhode Island to watch and take pictures of the birds and wildlife in our wonderful state.

Come and enjoy the great outdoors that Rhode Island has to offer.
