South Dakota has a population of over 750,000 with it's largest city being Sioux Falls.
South Dakota is bisected by the Missouri river, dividing the state into two socially and economically distinct halves, known to residents as "east-river" and "west-river." In the southwestern portion of the state rise the Black Hills, a group of low, pine-covered mountains. A region of great religious importance to local American Indians as well as a major draw for the state tourism industry, the Black Hills are also the location of Mt. Rushmore, probably the best-known location in the state and a widely-used unofficial symbol of South Dakota.
South Dakota also has lots of fishing, hunting, hiking, horseback riding, bird watching and many other sports to do with the miles of open wild country.

Nearly 30 fish species provide anglers with a variety of fishing adventures. The most popular fish include walleye, salmon, bluegill, crappie, perch, bass, pike, trout and catfish.

Fishing is great in South Dakota, with so many rivers, lakes and streams to chose from the choices are unlimited.

Over a dozen studies have shown that being with family and friends, relaxing and being outdoors and close to nature are the primary reasons people spend time on the water, and you can't do any better than fishing in South Dakota.

South Dakota also has some of the best bird and game hunting in the country. From ducks, geese and pheasant to deer, boar and bear hunting in South Dakota is a tradition. Hundreds of thousands of hunters each year take to the wild seeking a trophy and filling their freezer with meat for the winter.

Birding is the fastest-growing outdoor activity in America. In a recent study by the U.S. Department of the Interior, appreciation of birds ranks second behind gardening as America's favorite pastime.

Birds add a fascinating dimension to our surroundings with their color, liveliness, and music. Because they are wild creatures, they bring an element of nature into our lives.

In South Dakota we have over 300 species of birds, perhaps this is why every year millions of Americans come to South Dakota to watch and take pictures of the birds and wildlife in our wonderful state.

Come and enjoy the great outdoors that South Dakota has to offer.
