Virginia is home to the Central Intelligence Agency, Department of Defense, and is the training center for the F.B.I., Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and several Army bases. These folks are not just training, they are 24/7 on alert, combat ready military, guarding and protecting the very center of our government. They are on the ground, under the ground, in the water, under the water, in the air, above the air, in space and cyberspace.

Viginia is the heart of the military and the muscle of the U.S. Government and has been since George Washington was President. If you want to see our military up close and personal, there is no better place than Virginia. From the actual military bases to the history in the museums the military story of our nation is told across Virginia.

Known as the "Mother of Presidents", eight presidents were born in Virginia, more by far than any other state.

From the Blue Ridge Mountains down the Shenandoah river to the Chesapeake Bay, Virginia is a fertile and beautiful state. With hundreds of rivers all across the state, fishing, hunting and the great outdoors are enjoyed by all. Visit Dinosaur Land or anyone of our many amusement parks.

Fishing is great in Virginia, with so many rivers, lakes and streams to chose from the choices are unlimited. Do you remember your first fishing or boating trip? Ask anyone to tell the story of who first took them boating or fishing - chances are good the story is deeply personal and meaningful.

Over a dozen studies have shown that being with family and friends, relaxing and being outdoors and close to nature are the primary reasons people spend time on the water, and you can't do any better than fishing in Virginia.

Virginia also has some of the best bird and game hunting in the country. From ducks, geese and pheasant to deer, boar and bear hunting in Virginia is a tradition. Hundreds of thousands of hunters each year take to the wild seeking a trophy and filling their freezer with meat for the winter.

Birding is the fastest-growing outdoor activity in America. In a recent study by the U.S. Department of the Interior, appreciation of birds ranks second behind gardening as America's favorite pastime. Birds add a fascinating dimension to our surroundings with their color, liveliness, and music. Because they are wild creatures, they bring an element of nature into our lives.

In Virginia we have over 300 species of birds, perhaps this is why every year millions of Americans come to Virginia to watch and take pictures of the birds and wildlife in our wonderful state. Come and enjoy the great outdoors that Virginia has to offer.
